Dilon me tum apni betabiyan leke chal rahe ho,to zinda ho tum
Nazar me khwaabon ki bijliyan leke chal rahe ho,to zinda ho tum
Hwa ke jhokon ke jaise aazad rehno sekho
Tum ek dariya ke jaise lehron mein behna sekho
Hr ek lamhe se tum milo khole apni baahein
Hr ek pal ek nya sama dekhe nigahein
Jo apni ankhon mein hairanian leke chal rahe ho,to zinda ho tum
Dilon mein tum apni betabian leke chal rahe ho,to zinda ho tum
If you have eagerness in your heart, it means you are alive,
If your eyes are filled with dreams, it means you are alive
Learn to be free like the wind,
Learn to flow freely like the river,
Embrace every moment with open arms,
See a new horizon every time with your eyes,
If you carry surprise in your eyes, it means you are alive,
If you have eagerness in your heart, it means you are alive…
Nazar me khwaabon ki bijliyan leke chal rahe ho,to zinda ho tum
Hwa ke jhokon ke jaise aazad rehno sekho
Tum ek dariya ke jaise lehron mein behna sekho
Hr ek lamhe se tum milo khole apni baahein
Hr ek pal ek nya sama dekhe nigahein
Jo apni ankhon mein hairanian leke chal rahe ho,to zinda ho tum
Dilon mein tum apni betabian leke chal rahe ho,to zinda ho tum
Of course I did not write these lines. It is written by Javed Akthar for the movie Zindagi na Milegi Dobara. Well, I am not the kind of guy who reads poetry. In fact apart from the times when I had to read poetry for Hindi and English exams when I was in school, I never cared for it. But I loved the poems in the movie Zindagi na Milegi Dobara, mostly because they have placed it in apt situations in the movie. I confess that this would be the only time when I tried to grasp the meaning of a poem. Of the four poems in the movie, I particularly liked this poem because it is about how can you live life.
It was something which I always wanted to put in this blog. No, not some self- help guide on how to live life. No. Just my reflections on it or what I feel when I look back to the 23 years of my life till now. Or I should say what I have figured out till now; because at 23 years, I still fall under the "not having enough experience in life" category.
I have not read any books on Philosophy, so forgive me if I am saying something stupid. I think that dreams are to be dreamed. It has its way of coming true. I cannot say how, but some of the things which I have wanted to happen has happened. It might not be in the straightforward manner; you might even forget what you dreamed about becoming along the way, but once you reached where you want to get to, you will say, "Hey, I always wanted to be here or at this position, and I am here.... I don't know how I got here..."
I always think that everything happens in your life happens for a reason. It might be good or bad (unfortunately the latter happens more; I am not trying to prove Murphy's laws here, but the bad gets noticed more than the good). You will not know that at that time, but once you get to where you want to and you look back to your life till now, you will realize that whatever good or bad has happened, it has happened for a reason. I will not say that this "reason" would be something great or magnificent. I am not saying that you will become the person who will bring about a change in the world. All I am saying is that whatever that has happened till now in your life is the reason why you are here.
So my point is, the "reason" can as well be what you dream to be. I am not getting into how to get to your dream. Because I don't know. If I did I could have made a fortune writing books about it or giving motivational speeches about it. From my end, all I can say is that as long as you have belief in life and will not give up on life if what you dreamed does not happen, it is safe to dream. If you don't get to where you want to be, you should be able to say " So what ? Life presents us with a lot of other opportunities !".
The other day I was watching the movie Amelie (an awesome french movie). In it they were telling about how this girl Amelie likes to enjoy the simple joys of life. That got me thinking, well, we are always kind of stupid in that respect. We search for this so called happiness and we overlook some of the simple things that makes us happy. Like the smell of the ground after a rain, putting your feet in flowing water or as they say in that movie, poking your fingers in a sack of rice; we don't realize that soothing feeling it gives us. We are so concerned about the future or live in the memories of the past that we do not actually live in the present.
I don't intend to "inspire" people with this post; you are better off reading some of the great thinker's books for that. It is just as I said, what I have figured out till now. There is more to experience and learn. So I think I will stop now concluding with the english translation of the poem which I put in the beginning of this post.
If your eyes are filled with dreams, it means you are alive
Learn to be free like the wind,
Learn to flow freely like the river,
Embrace every moment with open arms,
See a new horizon every time with your eyes,
If you carry surprise in your eyes, it means you are alive,
If you have eagerness in your heart, it means you are alive…
